AnglicanNG ("the Platform", "we", "us", "our") is owned and operated by Mezie Platforms Limited (RC 8279418), a company registered in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Platform is available at anglicanng.com and its subdomains, including church microsites and the AnglicanNG shop.
This policy also governs your use of any church microsite hosted on the Platform. When you interact with a church's own pages — for example by sending a message through its contact form, subscribing to its newsletter, submitting a prayer request, or making a donation — that information is processed by us under this policy, with the church acting as a tenant of the Platform as described in Section 1. Individual churches do not publish separate privacy policies.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the rights you have over it. We process personal data in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDPA) and, where it applies to members living outside Nigeria, other applicable data protection laws.
By creating an account or using the Platform, you confirm that you have read and understood this policy.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Mezie Platforms Limited is the data controller for personal data processed on the Platform. Where a church, parish, diocese, or organisation uses the Platform's tools (for example to record attendance, manage its membership roster, or circulate documents), that body determines part of the purpose of the processing for its own members, and we process that data on the Platform on its behalf and under this policy.
You can reach us about anything in this policy at support@anglicanng.com.
2. A note about religious data
AnglicanNG is a platform for the Anglican community. Simply holding an account here can reveal your religious affiliation, and features such as church membership, prayer requests, and attendance records go further. Under the NDPA, data revealing religious beliefs is sensitive personal data. This includes any faith tradition or denomination you choose to state on your profile. We only process it because you have chosen to join a faith-based platform and have given your consent by registering, and we apply stricter care to it: we never sell it, never use it for advertising, and only share it as described in this policy.
3. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, username, email address, and password (stored only in encrypted form).
- Profile details you choose to add — a photo and banner image, a short bio, your birthday, your hometown or village, the ministries you serve in, and, if you wish, your faith tradition or denomination.
- Church affiliations — the churches you mark as your home church, the church you currently worship at, and churches you follow.
- Content you create — posts, comments, prayer requests, prayers offered for others, community and channel messages, direct messages, quiz answers and submissions, job applications and referrals, music uploads, testimonials, and files you store in an organisation's document vault.
- Records your church keeps about you — where you belong to a church or organisation that uses the Platform's tools, its authorised leaders may record your attendance at meetings and services, your roles and offices, meeting minutes that mention you, RSVP responses, and dues records.
- Messages you send us — enquiries through the contact form or by email.
Information collected automatically
- Technical data — IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and timestamps, collected through server logs and cookies (see our Cookie Policy).
- Usage data — how you interact with features, such as when you check in to a meeting, play a track, or read a message (used, for example, to show read receipts and engagement summaries to your church's leaders).
Payment information
Payments on the Platform (gifts to church funds, donations, dues, and shop purchases) are processed by Paystack. When you pay, your card or bank details go directly to Paystack and are never stored on our servers. We keep only a record of the transaction: the amount, date, status, and the reference Paystack gives us. Paystack's own privacy policy governs its handling of your payment details.
If you receive money through the Platform, we hold what is needed to route it to you. A church, organisation, or music minister connects a Paystack payout account so gifts settle straight to its bank; we store only the Paystack reference for that account, not the underlying bank details. A marketplace vendor provides bank account details so we can pay out their earnings — these we store, together with a Paystack transfer reference, for as long as needed to settle payouts and keep the records the law requires.
4. Why we use your data
We use personal data for the following purposes, on the following legal bases:
- To provide the Platform (performance of our contract with you) — operating your account, your profile, feeds, messaging, communities, church tools, the jobs board, the shop, and every other feature you use.
- To support church administration (consent, given when you join a church or organisation on the Platform) — attendance, rosters, oversight reporting, circulars, and document sharing within the church bodies you belong to.
- To keep the Platform safe (legitimate interest) — moderating reported content, preventing abuse and spam, vetting churches, vendors, and office holders, and securing accounts.
- To communicate with you (consent and legitimate interest) — service emails such as verification, notifications, meeting reminders, digests, and job alerts. You can switch optional emails off in your account settings or via the unsubscribe link in each email.
- To improve the Platform (legitimate interest) — aggregate analytics about how features are used. Analytics are never used to profile your faith or beliefs.
- To meet legal obligations — record keeping, responding to lawful requests from authorities, and enforcing our Terms of Service.
5. Who can see your information
- Other members — your public profile (name, username, photo, bio, ministries, church line, and verified badge, where applicable) is visible to other signed-in members if you have enabled a public profile. Content you post to public spaces (feeds, prayer walls, communities you join) is visible to its intended audience. Direct messages are visible only to you and the recipient.
- Your church and organisation leaders — authorised leaders of the bodies you belong to can see membership, attendance, engagement, and dues information for those bodies, and supervising bodies (for example a diocese over its parishes) can see roll-up summaries.
- Service providers — companies that help us run the Platform: hosting and infrastructure providers, email delivery services, Paystack for payments, API.Bible for licensed Bible text (no personal data is sent to it), and Google Tag Manager / Google Analytics for aggregate usage statistics on the public site. Each processes data only on our instructions.
- Legal and safety — we may disclose data where the law requires it, or where disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of members or the integrity of the Platform. Moderators may review reported content, including private messages that are the subject of a report.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile and personal data are removed or anonymised within a reasonable period, except where we must keep records longer — for example transaction records required by financial regulations, or content that has been the subject of a legal or safety matter. Attendance and governance records kept by a church remain part of that church's records in anonymised or historical form where the law allows.
7. Your rights
Under the NDPA you have the right to:
- access a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete data (most profile data you can edit yourself in your account settings);
- ask us to delete your data;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that happened before withdrawal; and
- lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) if you believe your rights have been infringed.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@anglicanng.com. We will respond within the period the NDPA prescribes.
8. Children
The Platform is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. Members aged 13 to 17 may use the Platform only with the consent and involvement of a parent or guardian, in line with the NDPA's provisions on children's data. Youth programmes run on the Platform (such as fellowship quizzes and conferences) are organised through the participants' churches, which are responsible for obtaining the appropriate parental consent. If you believe a child is using the Platform without consent, contact us and we will remove the account.
9. Security
We protect your data with security measures appropriate to its sensitivity, including encryption of data in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, role-based access controls so church data is visible only to authorised leaders, private storage for vault documents and uploads, and audit records for sensitive administrative actions. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach occurs that affects your rights, we will notify you and the NDPC as the NDPA requires.
10. International transfers
Our members include Anglicans in the diaspora, and some of our service providers store data outside Nigeria. Where personal data leaves Nigeria, we transfer it only to countries or providers offering an adequate level of protection, or under safeguards recognised by the NDPA.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Platform grows. When we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page and notify you on the Platform or by email. Continuing to use the Platform after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
